AH11 Gullfoss & Geysir Express

In one afternoon, this popular excursion enables visitors to experience some of the most exiting natural phenomena Iceland has to offer. We visit Žingvellir, where the Icelandic parliament Alžingi was established in 930 and Christianity was adopted in the year 1000.

Žingvellir has been a National Park since the 1920’s and geologically seperate it is unique since here the tectonic plates, that is America and Europe, and these continents are slowly drifting apart. In August 2004 Žingvellir was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List and is now in the family of just under eight hundred places in the world that have been honoured by UNESCO.

From there we travel through the beautiful countryside towards an active geologic area. We stop to view the beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, the incredible spouting hot spring of Geysir and Strokkur and the immensely powerful old implosion crater, Keriš. We then proceed on our journey to Hveragerši town, a small but beautiful horticultural town where you will see how geothermal energy has been harnessed to create unique greenhouse cultivation. In these large greenhouses various types of vegetables, exotic fruits and colourful flowers are grown. On our way back we travel over a mountain heath back to the capital.

Although this tour is an “express” tour, you will be visiting some of the very best known historical sites and natural phenomena in the country.
