AH22 Reykjanes Peninsula & Gullfoss / Geysir Express

We head for the Reykjanes peninsula where the Atlantic ridge rises above the ocean. We visit the lighthouse on the westernmost tip of the peninsula which is a magnificent area with rich bird life, and at Eldey Island there is one of the world’s biggest breeding colonies of the Northern Gannet.

You can hear the surf crashing at the beautiful basaltic cliffs. It’s simply magical! We continue to the lava fields to the fishing village Grindavík, with its numerous fish processing factories and sheltered harbour entrance. After a short stop by the Blue Lagoon we continue to Reykjavík and from there towards the Golden Circle.

We will travel to some of the most exiting natural phenomena Iceland has to offer. We visit Þingvellir, a geologically unique place. Here the tectonic plates meet, that is America and Europe, and it is on a constant move. In August 2004 Þingvellir was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. From there we continue to view the majestic and beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, the incredible spouting hot spring of Geysir and Strokkur and the immensely powerful old explosion crater, Kerið. We visit Hveragerði with its large greenhouses before travelling through a highly mountainous region back to the capital.
