OUR OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATION
You can see thumbnail descriptions of all the accommodation we use around the
island on this web site. Whatever its nature our selection criteria is simply
‘best of breed’ and location. Breakfast is included and an evening meal
available, although at farm hotels you may need to ring ahead and confirm you’ll
want to eat that evening. As a guide rather than a classification your overnight
lodging will be at a mix of these types of places.

FARMHOUSE HOTELS - a few of Iceland’s farmers still run small mixed farms or country hotels and have a long tradition of offering overnight hospitality to travellers. Each is quite different to the other but all offer simple home cooked food, uncomplicated hospitality and pleasant rooms with either private or shared bathroom facilities. Above all, staying at a farm is the best way to experience traditional Icelandic life. |

CLEAN AND SIMPLE hotels are schools brought into use in the summer as travellers hotels. They might either still be used as schools during term time, in which case they may occasionally have facilities like a swimming pool for example, or might be one time schools that open up for just the summer. What they have in common are simple, clean rooms with private WC/shower and a restaurant serving breakfast and a reasonably priced evening meal. |

SPECIAL PLACES are exactly that: places we’ve found and which are in some cases exclusive to us. A farm where you have breakfast whilst watching the cows being milked; a meticulously renovated clapboard wooden building; a once private house littered with traditional furniture at the foot of a waterfall; a former fishing lodge with food to die for or a little place alongside a barn in the mountains where you can hear a pin drop. |
