Iceland’s southwest corner has some of its most dramatic natural attractions and at Vík, the island’s southern tip, Dyrhólaey’s bird cliff promontory, from which black sand beaches fringed with ocean foam stretch as far as the eye can see.
DAY 1 UK – KEFLAVÍK Scheduled Icelandair flight to Reykjavík. Transfer on arrival to Northern Lights Inn for overnight with time for a bathe in the Blue Lagoon before dinner.
DAY 2 KEFLAVÍK-VÍK After breakfast, collect your hire car and set off along the South coast. Scenic Highlights: Keri: Seljalandsfoss: Seljavellir: Skógarfoss: Dyrhólaey bird cliffs. Overnight at Dyrhólaey Hotel for 2 nights.
DAY 3 VÍK-SKAFTAFELL-VÍK Drive along the southeast coast with bridges fjording dramatic outwash plains interspersed with black sand beaches and lava fields. Scenic Highlights: Vík: Kirkjubæjarklaustur: Skaftafell National Park. Activity option: Skidoo trip on Sólheimajökull.
DAY 4 VÍK-GULLFOSS Follow the road along the coast and up to Gullfoss detouring into Pórsmörk along the way. Scenic Highlights: órsmörk: Þingvellir: Geysir. Overnight at Hotel Hekla.
DAY 5 GULLFOSS-REYKJAVÍK Scenic Highlights: ingvellir National Park: Gullfoss: Skálholt Cathedral. Overnight at Hótel Leifur Eíriksson.
DAY 6 REYJAVÍK-UK Time to browse Reykjavík or leave early and visit the Reykjanes Peninsula before returning hire car at airport and return flight to UK.
