Prices | Map of tour

Explore the Hanseatic delights of Bergen; discover Oslo with its extraordinary Vigeland sculpture park; cruise on the world’s longest fjord and through Western Norway’s archipelago; stop off at old working farms for a glimpse of Norwegian life and take in the extraordinary Flåm mountain railway.

A highlight of this arrangement is a trip along the Fjaerlandsfjord, which leeches off the Sognefjord and at whose head is the Jostedalsbreen glacier, the longest in Continental Europe. Apart from their sheer awesomeness, glaciers are visible barometers of climate change with the finger glaciers behaving individually and idiosyncratically:Nigardsbreen is virtually unaffected whilst other glacier arms are melting away. The Norwegian Glacier Museum is a suberb example of what a museum should be with a multi screen film presentation of the glacier filmed from a helicoptor and interactive exhibits demonstrating glaciers to be much more than blobs of ice.

DAY 1 UK – BERGEN Scheduled SAS flight from UK to Bergen, self transfer and overnight at Hotel Neptun for 2 nights.

DAY 2 BERGEN Day at leisure. Sitting in the embrace of its seven mountains and latticed by fjords, this charming Hanseatic harbour town is a delight. Bryggen, the medieval quayside and Troldhaugen, Edvard Grieg’s home, are probably Bergen’s best known attractions. The view from the top of Mount Fløyen is truly breathtaking.

DAY 3 BERGEN – LEIKANGER Depart by shallow draft fjord cruiser out through the coastal archipelago into the Sognefjord, visit Finnabotn bay and the farm there where there are options ashore for fishing and gentle hiking. Afterwards continue along the fjord to Leikanger. Overnight at Leikanger hotel.

DAY 4 LEIKANGER – FLÅM – OSLO After breakfast cruise along both the Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord stopping at the little settlements of Styvi and Undredal where there is time to look around the tiny Lutheran church. Ride up the awe inspiring Flåm valley on the mountain railway with its vertiginous 1 in 18 gradient and at Myrdal board the Bergensbanen for a journey across the ‘Roof of Norway’ to Oslo. Overnight for 2 nights at Hotel Victoria.

DAY 5 OSLO At leisure in the Viking Capital set at the head of the Oslofjord. Oslo is a compact city with shops, theatres and restaurants within walking distance of each other. The Viking Ship Museum, Munch Museum and extraordinary Vigeland Sculpture Park are all musts.

DAY 6 OSLO – UK Morning at leisure before SAS return flight to UK.
