Enjoy some of the places the Swedes keep to themselves: The smoothly skerried western coastline where the nation’s smart set have their summer houses; the ‘can’t hear a pin drop’ meadowland close by its great lakes, the cobbled alleyways of Stockholm’s Old Town and its second city Gothenburg.

After a few days in Stockholm, you pick up your hire car and follow the main road north of Lake Malaren, down past Orebro, through the province of Vastergotland to close by Falkoping.

Set in a hamlet among chestnut tree parkland alongside Lake Vattern the Aspa Herrgards’s main building dates back to the 17th century and has been carefully restored and renovated. Each and every room has been individual styled and decorated by the Aberg family often using Laura Ashley fabrics to retain a country house feel. All rooms have private WC/bath; the hotel’s kitchen is something exceptional and the ambience comfortable and relaxed.

Leave after two nights for Handelsman Flink’s on the island of Flaton reached by a tiny ferry crossing over the Tjorn bridges to Orust. Loosely translated as the ‘crafty merchants store’, your stay here includes two three course dinners. Breathtaking views across the waters of Malo Strommar are included.

For your last day in Sweden drive past the ice smoothed skerries that characterise the coast line down to Gothenburg; along the way you can drop in at Café Emma in Mollosund on the quayside of Bohuslan’s oldest fishing village.

DAY 1 UK - STOCKHOLM Scheduled SAS flight direct to Stockholm for three nights at the Hellsten Hotel.
DAY 2 & 3 STOCKHOLM Days at leisure. Take a trip out to the archipelago; stroll around the old town; spend all afternoon on Skansen or take a trip out to Uppsala.
DAY 4 STOCKHOLM - BJERSTORP Breakfast in your hotel, after which collect your hire car and drive west between Lakes Vanern and Vattern to Bjerstorp Slot for a 2 night stay.
DAY 5 BJERSTORP Day at leisure in this art nouveau ‘Slot’ hotel renowned for its cuisine. Just watch the day go by in the landscaped grounds or explore the countryside.
DAY 6 BJERSTORP - BOHUSLAN Short drive across to the ice smoothed skerries of the Bohuslan coastline and Handelsman Flink’s for a 2 night stay including dinner.
DAY 7 Day at leisure to explore the little fishing hamlets that dot the Bohuslan coast.
DAY 8 BOHUSLAN - GOTHENBURG Drive to Gothenburg for the final night of your stay.
DAY 9 GOTHENBURG - UK Morning at leisure before your late afternoon flight to UK.
