Built on a string of islands, Stockholm was founded where Lake Malaren’s water meets the Baltic. ‘Gamla Stan’ (the Old Town) with its narrow cobbled streets is beautifully preserved. The City’s two large pedestrian precincts offer a host of elegant shops and boutiques. Stockholm’s striking City Hall is set on the edge of Lake Malaren and the Royal Palace overlooks the harbour with its armada of sightseeing boats. For an enchanting, sophisticated few days, Stockholm with its 24,000 island archipelago is a treasure of romance and beauty. Dine on fresh shellfish or scented reindeer in a vaulted restaurant in the ‘Old Town’. Seen and be seen in the Opera Kafe. Take one of numerous boat trips out to the scattered islands of the archipelago. Visit Kungstradgarden with its cafes, patisseries and vibrant nightlife.
