Enjoy Iceland’s scenic highlights in our exclusive signature tour round the island beginning and ending with overnight stays at one of Reykjavík’s luxury hotels. Along the way take in Gullfoss; Geysir; Vatnajökull; Lake Jökulsárlón andd the magic of Myvatn with its spectacular rock formations, bird life and bubbling mud pits.
DAY 1 UK – REYKJAVÍK Scheduled Icelandair flights to Reykjavik. Private transfer to Radisson Saga Hotel. Evening at leisure.
DAY 2 REYKJAVÍK – VÍK Start the day with a brief city tour before heading south to Iceland’s hot spring botanical village, Hverageri. Highlights: Skalholt, a modernist cathedral built on the site of Iceland’s first Episcopal See: Geysir hot springs area: Gullfoss waterfall. Overnight at Hótel Edda.
DAY 3 VÍK – HÖFN Drive across the vast outwash plain Skeiarársandur, latticed with Vatnajökull’s glacial rivers.Highlights: Skaftafell National Park: Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier: Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. Overnight at Asgardur guesthouse.
DAY 4 HÖFN – EGILSSTADIR Follow the fjord indented coastline round up through the Almannaskar mountain pass to Egilsstadir on the banks of the Lagarfljot River. Highlights: Eastern Fjords: Hengifoss Waterfall: Overnight at Hotel Edda.
DAY 5 EGILSSTADIR – AKUREYRI Leaving the forested and fertile landscapes of the east behind, cross the Mörudal plateau with its vast, dun coloured tundra like aspect stretching as far as the eye can see, before reaching Myvatn’s shallow eutrophic lake, grass coloured pseudo craters and lava pillars. Highlights: Mörudal sand desert: Lake Myvatn: Godafoss Waterfall. Overnight at Hotel Edda.
DAY 6 AKUREYRI – BORGARNES Drive over the Öxnadalur pass through lush green farmland speckled with hay bales, sheep flocks and hamlets signatured with their church’s Lutheran spire. Highlights: Akureyri’s clapboard houses: Borgarnes. Overnight at Hotel Borgarnes.
DAY 7 BORGARNES – REYKJAVÍK Leave Borgarnes for ingvellir, the exquisitely serene National park and eponymous lake where fragments of the turf and stone booths from the Althing are found. Activity option: Blue Lagoon. Overnight at Radisson Hotel SAGA.
DAY 8 REYKJAVÍK-UK Private transfer to Keflavík Airport. Scheduled Icelandair flights to UK.
