Enjoy the pastoral delights of southern Sweden and the urban chic of Copenhagen (Oresund in the singular): a couple of days of urban living followed by a few days of R&R in the countryside. Enjoy food to die for; a city with a unique maritime imprint and the lazy, hazy days of a Swedish summer.

Until the middle of the 19th century, Oresund meant only one thing (and that only to sailors): pay your dues to the Prince of Denmark to get through the Baltic or be sunk. Today, Oresund has lent its name both to the bridge over the Sound and a region! Whilst the latter has a suspiciously EU sound about it, the fact is Copenhagen is now linked to the southern part of Sweden, so the tourist board slogan ‘One destination – two countries’ does have the ring of truth to it.

The hallmark of the area is contrast: between uber-cool Copenhagen, as modern and sophisticated as urban living gets and the pastoral tranquility of Skane, Southern Sweden’s farming heartland. Between Copenhagen’s architecturally sophisticated Opera house and Ystad’s meticulously preserved timber houses; between the fusion cuisine and the traditional Smorgasbord; between lounging with a Pilsner on Nyhavn one day and hiking the next.

TOWN & COUNTRY ITINERARY

DAY 1 UK-COPENHAGEN Scheduled flight to Copenhagen, self-transfer to and overnight for 2 nights at Hotel Skt Petri.
DAY 2 COPENHAGEN Day at leisure.
DAY 3 COPENHAGEN-RINGSJO LAKE Take the train across the Oresund bridge to Malmo central station, collect your hire car and head for the heart of Skane and Lake Ringsjo.Overnight at Ringsjo.
DAY 4 RINGSJO LAKE-TOMARPS Cross the Linderods ridge for a night at the Garden Hotel Tomarps.
DAY 5 TOMARPS-OSTERLEN After breakfast south to Osterlen: the reflective and refracted light is the big thing here, attracting artists and artisans. Overnight at Karlaby Kro.
DAY 6 COPENHAGEN-UK Drive back to Malmo, drop off car, transfer to Copenhagen’s Karstrup airport and return flight to UK.
