Immortalised as Enari in Philip Pullman’s trilogy ‘His Dark Materials’, Lake Inari is infused with the mysticism of Sami culture and the village of Nellim lies at its very heart. Here in this most tranquil of settings, an Inari Sami family create for their visitors a warm and magical atmosphere in which to enjoy snowmobile and husky safaris and practice the ancient Sami arts of snow shoeing and skiing.

WILDERNESS HOTEL, NELLIM

The Wilderness Hotel Nellim is owned and run by the Lappalainen family: Jonko and Mari. Here they have converted the old school house into a home for themselves, their twins and travellers looking for adventure and tranquility. 12 simply furnished rooms and 5 cozy apartments with private WC/shower; fresh food from the lake or forests and an authentic Sami family welcome characterizes the hotel. As well as a restaurant and Kota, there is a traditional wood burning sauna.
