DAY 1 UK – NELLIM Scheduled Finnair flight(s) to Ivalo via Helsinki. Private transfer by car to Hotel Nellim. Programme briefing, dinner and overnight for 5 nights.
DAY 2 A MORNING WITH THE SAMI Nellim is home to both Skolt and Inari Sami, along with ethnic Finns, and after breakfast your guide will introduce you to some of them, recalling their antecedence and telling of their contemporary lives. Your walk takes you to the village Kota, the Orthodox Church of St.Triphon of Petsamo and a reindeer corral after which you travel by car to the Russian border. Lunch at the hotel followed by cross country skiing. Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 3 SNOWMOBILE SAFARI After breakfast and a driving and safety tutorial, set off on your 60 km adventure through the pine forested belt close to the 69th parallel, stopping at a reindeer farm for a short reindeer ride. Lunch en route by an open fire possibly of arctic char or trout fished from Lake Inari before late afternoon return to Nellim. Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 4 SNOW ACTIVITY DAY The sloping bank that runs down to the frozen lake is the setting for today’s activities which include the traditional Sami arts of snow shoeing and ice fishing, the catch from which will be cooked over an open fire for lunch. Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 5 HUSKY SAFARI After breakfast it’s time to meet Christopher’s pack of Alaskan huskies whose kennels in the forest are just a short walk from the hotel and whose excited barking slowly magnifies as you approach them through the trees. Adults mush their own team of dogs: as the dogs pull you along a snowcarpeted trail the silence is broken only by the whooshing sound of slicing sleigh runners. En route, lunch cooked over an open fire. Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 6 NELLIM – UK Breakfast and private car transfer to Ivalo airport for scheduled Finnair flight(s) via Helsinki to Heathrow.
