WHITE WEDDINGS IN ICELAND
GLYMUR & THE WHALE FJORD
Clinging to the mountainside overlooking Hvalfjödur (whale fjord) with Snæfellsnes the eternal pyramid of snow in the distance is the Glymur restaurant and hotel, stylishly owner driven by Jon Hognason and Hansina Einarsdottir. Almost adjacent to the hotel is a picture postcard Lutheran church where wedding ceremonies are conducted by the local pastor.
HOTEL GLYMUR
From its mountainside perch overlooking Hvalfjöur, the Glymur which takes its name from the eponymous waterfall nearby is a quirkily stylish hotel with just 22 split level rooms each with a separate sitting room. The lounge, restaurant and public areas are filled with a miscellany of artefacts and object d’arts collected by the owners. Outside a wooden causeway leads to hot tubs overlooking the fjord where you can relax and listen to the silence of the countryside.
DAY 1 UK – GLYMUR Scheduled Icelandair flight to Reykjavik. Collect hire car and drive to Hotel Glymur. Overnight in the Bridal Mini suite for 4 nights.
DAY 2 GLYMUR Day at leisure to explore and enjoy some of Iceland’s attractions: nearby is the trio of spectaculars known as the Golden Circle and out to the west the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
DAY 3 WEDDING DAY After breakfast visit Borgarnes to deal with the necessary formalities. Afternoon wedding in the small Lutheran church down by the Whale Fjord, just 5 minutes from the hotel, to which you transfer by Super Jeep. Simple traditional Lutheran ceremony conducted by the local Pastor, followed by a Wedding Breakfast in the hotel’s beautiful Red Room restaurant overlooking the Fjord.
DAY 4 GLYMUR After a leisurely breakfast in your room, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, play golf on one of the nearby courses or relax in one of the hotel’s mountainside hot tubs.
DAY 5 GLYMUR – UK After breakfast drive to the Reykjanes peninsula for a valedictory bathe in the turquoise waters of the Blue Lagoon. Return hire car at the airport and return flight to UK.
